I was inspired by the Malabrigo Arroyo Archangel colorway and made this cowl/poncho to make the most of the color variations. This pattern uses one skein of Arroyo (300 meters/330 yards) and it works very well with a heavily variegated yarn.

The pattern is written for one size but it’s easily adjusted due to repeating sections.
The unstretched circumference is 44 cm/17½ inches at the neck and 121 cm/48½ inches at the bottom. Cowl length is 34 cm/13½ inches.

The cowl is worked on circular needles, starting on a 40 cm/ 16 inches needle and then switching to longer needles as you increase. It is worked top-down, starting flat and then it’s joined in the round and gradually increased. You work in alternating sections of garter and ribbing, until the bottom where the final section is done in a feather and fan pattern before binding off. The design also includes 3 buttonholes and buttons for decoration. The neck circumference is large enough to pass over an adult’s head without them.
