Like a flaky, fruit-filled strudel pastry, this top-down raglan tee layers single-row stripes and slipped stitches. The entire tee is knit inside out in two-colour helix knitting, a technique for jogless stripes, then flipped during finishing to reveal the purl side and structural slip-stitch design lines. This pattern uses a dynamic sizing system that tailors knitting instructions to your measurements. Learn more about the dynamic sizing system →

Is this a good project for me?
This pattern is ideal for adventurous advanced beginners and intermediate knitters who are excited to learn something new. If you’ve ever looked at a purl-heavy project and thought, “There has to be a better way,” you’ll probably get a kick out of this one. My test knitters enjoyed the inside-out construction, and found the shaping tables and helix knitting much easier than they first appeared.

Sizes
(1, 2, 3) (4, 5, 6) (7, 8, 9)

These sizes are intended to fit actual body measurements of:

High bust circumference (measured around armpit level): (77.5, 85.5, 93.5) (102, 110, 118.5) (126.5, 134.5, 140) cm/(30.5, 33.75, 36.75) (40.25, 43.25, 46.75) (49.75, 53, 55) in

Full bust circumference: (71-76, 81-86, 91.5-96.5) (101.5-106.5, 111.5-117, 122-127) (132-137, 142-147, 152-158) cm/(28-30, 32-34, 36-38) (40-42, 44-46, 48-50) (52-54, 56-58, 60-62) in

Finished bust circumference: (80.5, 89, 99.5) (110, 120.5, 131) (141.5, 150, 160.5) cm/(32.25, 35.5, 39.75) (44, 48.25, 52.5) (56.75, 60, 64.25) in.

Use your full bust measurement to estimate your size and yarn quantities. The Shaping Tables will refine the size recommendation. Shaping Tables can be worked either with standard pattern shaping OR be tailored to your measurements. When customizing the tables, this tool recommends a starting size based on your high bust and generates a row-by-row yoke shaping plan tailored to your measurements. Tables can be used online or printed.

This pattern was designed to have approximately 2.5-9.5 cm/1-3.75 in positive ease at the full bust. Sample shown is size 3 worn with 9.5 cm/3.75 in positive ease on a 90 cm/35.5 in full bust, with no modifications to the base pattern shaping.

How this Top Is Knit
Strawberry Strudel is a top-down tee worked in alternating stripes of two colours. It features bold five-stitch Slipped Rib lines that function as both raglan lines and decorative design lines. Raglan shaping can be customized to your measurements and is worked using the linked Shaping Tables.

Strawberry Strudel is worked inside out: the finished garment features the purl side of the work, but while knitting, the knit side is still considered the RS of the work - so you don’t have to purl an entire T-shirt’s worth of stockinette!

After casting on, the neckline is shaped flat before joining the two front halves to work in the round. After separating for body and sleeves, the body is knit around using the helix technique to achieve jogless stripes. Raglan lines are continued as design lines down the sides of the body, and the hem is worked in the same stitch pattern as the design lines. Sleeve and neckline stitches are picked up and finished with the same edging.
