Sugar & Roses top overview:
The Sugar & Roses Top is the perfect crochet T-shirt: lightweight, breathable, and opaque, making it a true wardrobe staple. Designed to fit like your favourite tee, it features thoughtful details such as shoulder shaping, armhole shaping, set-in sleeves, and clean, continuous stripes. Because of this tailored construction, the pattern is Intermediate level. However, each step is carefully explained so you can build new skills as you go and carry these techniques into future projects.
If you’re a beginner, you’ll also find simplified options that allow you to modify more complex sections, making this a pattern you can return to again and again as your confidence grows.
Skill Level Option:
The Sugar & Roses top in the sample version requires intermediate level crochet skills.
However, it contains the instructions to modify the Intermediate Level sections to be Easy, such as
- alternative to the complicated colour change
- alternative to the use of short rows
- alternative to the set-in cap sleeve construction
Sizing:
The pattern comes in sizes XS(S,M,L, XL)(2XL,3XL,4XL,5XL)
You can check the sizing chart in pics for more details.
Yarn&Yardage:
Fingering weight yarn.
I used Organic Trio by Hjertegarn (50 g = 230 m, 50% organic merino wool, 25% organic cotton & 25% silk, in shade 5014 and 5009).
Note: In the sample t-shirt in the pattern, Colour A is brown, i.e. shade 5009, and Colour B is light blue, i.e. shade 5014.
Yarn recommendation: This is a light and breezy t-shirt. When picking your yarn, if you opt for acrylic, consider selecting a lighter yarn, i.e. higher yardage. If you select a 100% cotton or 100% bamboo, or blend of the two, the final make will tend to stretch. To keep it in good shape, do not hang it in your wardrobe but fold it and keep it in a drawer!
Yardage
Colour A: 440(450, 520, 580,650)(710,780,850,920) m
Colour B: 440(450, 520, 580,650)(710,780,850,920) m
Construction:
The Sugar & Roses Top is crocheted bottom up in two panels. Each panel is shaped at the top to create a shoulder slope, armhole shaping, and a neckline. The panels are then sewn together at the shoulders and at the sides. The sleeves are worked directly into the body and are set-in cap sleeves for a perfect fit.
Gauge:
Body: 10 cm x 10 cm in pattern (blocked) = 15 rows X 18 sts
Notions:
Needles, Tape measure, Stitch markers, Scissors, Blocking set
Hooks:
3 mm hook
