The Summer Romp baby romper is a vintage style little summer bodysuit. Knitted in DK weight 100% cotton, it is cool, absorbent and breathable, and can be worn next to baby’s delicate skin, or over a t-shirt. The design features a lace panel in the centre front, which gives an airy, summery look. Instructions are also given for a plain version, with no lace panel.
Summer Romp features a handy buttoned opening for easy nappy changes and has straps that converge on a high back, so that they stay on little shoulders. Shoulder straps can be knitted with enough length so that simply moving the buttons can extend the suit’s use for a few more months of growth.
The romper is knitted in DK weight cotton from the bottom up (taking 2, 2, 3 50g balls), and instructions are provided for either knitting in the round, so no sewing is required, or in two pieces and sewn along the sides. The pattern is given in 3 sizes (newborn – 3 months, 3 – 6 months and 6 – 12 months).
Summer Romp is a straightforward project that you can knit quickly and will want to make a number of times.
erratum, 1.The original version of this file (here and on LoveCrafts) had incorrect row numbers in the plain romper pattern. These have since been corrected.
2. The stitch count for Row 1 of the back for the patterned romper knitted in the round should read “39 43, 47 sts” not “39 sts”. This has been rectified (6/6/24).
