The summer sailing shorties are knit from the cuff down, in a 4ply or fingering yarn.

You start by casting on a huge amount of stitches for the ruffle, which appears after rapidly decreasing. Then you shape the heel tab by inserting short rows in the back and resolving them immediately after. You then fold over the fabric and knit stitches together, so you end up having a cuff in stockinette stitch on both on the inside and the outside.

With a nifty little twist, you then change the direction of knitting and add some hidden rows of ribbing, to prevent the socks from sliding down the ankle.

Afterwards, you shape the back of the heel and the special rounded bottom of the heel. You pick up stitches and decrease stitches for the gusset.

Once you reach the desired length, you knit a rounded toe and close it by using the kitchener stitch.
