The Sunday River Scarf uses a simple increase/decrease pattern to create a wavy contoured shape reminiscent of a slow, peaceful river. The straightforward instructions make this a great travel project.

Difficulty level - Advanced beginner
This pattern uses yarn overs to create “holes” in the knitting. While not technically a lace pattern, getting acquainted with this technique will prepare you for lace patterns. The pattern rows are not complicated and once you are familiar with the way a row is worked, you will not have to look at the instructions very often.

Yarn selection
This is a great opportunity to use yarns that include silk among their fibers, if you are in the mood for a little luxury - it creates great drape for this scarf. The pattern also works well with merino as well as fiber blends. The simple pattern means that it is a great canvas for colorful handpainted or variegated yarn, as well as more subtle colorways or tonals.
