This sunflower is crocheted with yellow and black yarn. Using aran weight and a 5mm hook it is aproximately 10cm across, with the petals worked in the front and back stitches of the second round seperately so they are layered. Alternativlely, using double knit yarn and a 4mm hook gives a diameter of aproximately 8cm across. It starts with a magic circle and uses UK terminology.

A stitch marker is not essential but I did use a safety pin to mark the chain stitch where round 2 starts so it may be helpful.

There is no specific gauge but keeping the stitches fairly loose might make it easier to work in the front and the back of round 2

This pattern was originally written to make sunflowers to raise money for Unicef/The Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Appeal, so if you are able to, please consider donating to one of those or another local charity, and please do use this pattern for your own charity fundraisers
