Suolaulu talvi
In the 3rd poem of Kalevala, Väinämöinen and Joukahainen are competing in knowledge and wisdom, and Väinämöinen sings his competitor into a swamp. In his panic Joukahainen promises his sister to Väinämöinen as a bride. Joukahainen’s mother is very pleased that her daughter will marry a great and important man, but the maiden is unhappy about her betrothal to the old gray bearded Väinämöinen. Sweater pattern is inspired by Finnish swamp and nature and Baltic and Norwegian motifs. Suolaulu talvi (talvi = winter in English) is yoke version of Suolaulu sweater.
