Sweater Doo for Men
Sweater Doo is a seamless model based on a saddle-shoulder design, with extended saddle. The sweater is knitted as a single piece (Front, Back and two Saddles / Sleeve Caps) from top to bottom. Up to the level of Front neckline, we knit in back and forth rows, and after it with circular knitting. After separating Sleeves, knit Body of the sweater also from top to bottom in a circle. Then knit each Sleeve separately in a circle from the underarm to the cuff. At the end of the work, a turtleneck collar / crewneck band is made based on a chain stitch.
The level of the pattern complexity is average. The necessary skills for knitting this design are:
– reading knitting charts (knitting charts are accompanied by a textual description; the video shows an example of the knitting the deepening Back neckline based on the chart),
– knitting the stockinette stitch evenly, without fluctuations in gauge, regardless of the direction and method of knitting (in back and forth rows, circular knitting, and magic loop),
– increasing and decreasing stitches with different leaning,
– short rows.
Gauge: 23 sts x 35 rows/rounds = 10 x 10 cm 4”x 4” in stockinette stitch after wet blocking. The pattern also considers two nearby knitting gauges: 24 sts x 36 rows/rounds and 22 sts x 34 rows/rounds in a square of 10 x 10 cm 4”x4″.
This sweater does not provide much ease of fit, the recommended positive ease for this sweater is from 4 to 12 cm (1.5” … 4.5”) depending on the size and man’s figure. The pattern is presented in seven sizes; it can be used for knitting on a man’s figure with a chest circumference of 76 to 125 cm 30″…49″. See the size range, technical data of the pullover, the algorithm of work with the pattern in the gallery.
If a man has the broad shoulders, you can choose a size with more positive ease. If a man has the narrow shoulders, I recommend choosing a size with minimal ease for a comfortable fit of the sweater at the shoulder level. If desired, in the process of knitting, you can adjust the charts (page 11) and increase the ease at the chest level and for the Sleeves. The pattern also takes into account the features of a man’s figure: shoulder width, posture, recommendations are given for adjusting knitting charts for a man with a hunchback, narrow hips and tummy. Choose a gauge 24 sts x 36 rows/rnds or 23 sts x 35 rows/rnds if you want to knit a turtleneck sweater. If you want to knit a crewneck and make a narrow band, select a gauge 22 sts x 34 rows/rnds.
