Cathedrals are not just a place for joint prayer; their architecture is meant to praise God and amaze the believers. I, too, am impressed by the way the light shines through the stained glass windows of gothic churches. This was the theme I wanted to reflect in this jumper. I got the idea when I visited the Washington National Cathedral, a new gothic building which was built comparatively recently – construction only started in 1907 and finished in 1990. For me as a European, I was surprised to see that it was built exactly like its sisters in Europe, many centuries its senior. Only the beautiful windows bursting with colour give away that this church is only a couple of decades old.

Kathedralen sind nicht nur Ort gemeinsamen Gebets, ihre Architektur soll Gott preisen und die Gläubigen in Erstaunen setzen. Auch mich beeindruckt das Lichtspiel durch die Buntglasfenster gotischer Kirchen, das ich in diesem Pullover nachempfinden möchte. Die Idee kam mir beim Besuch der Washington National Cathedral, einem neugotischen Bau, der erst 1907 begonnen und 1990 fertiggestellt wurde. Für eine Europäerin wie mich war es überraschend, dass man diese Kirche exakt wie ihre mehrere Jahrhunderte alten Schwestern in Europa gebaut hat. Nur bei der Gestaltung der wunderschönen, überaus bunten Fenster ist zu erkennen, dass diese Kathedrale erst wenige Jahrzehnte zählt.
