When I was a youngster, I worked in my mom’s yarn store. She had a great group of ladies who worked in the store but there was one that was quite the character.
Alice Armstrong was born and raised in the Shetland Islands and emigrated to Canada after marriage. Her knitting skills were amazing, including beautiful colourwork and Shetland Lace. Now an octogenarian, she is feisty, hilarious and a prolific poet. When she determined she would not be able to knit any more, she generously gifted her Fair Isle books and handwritten charts to me. I humbly dedicate the Sweet Alice hat, mittens, and cowl designs to her.
