The inspiration for this design comes from peas. Sugar peas, sweet peas, green peas that gently but persistently vine up, up, up every summer until bursting out in rich and fragrant bloom.

Starting at the toe up, the lace panel finds its way upwards on the side of the sock until in a very natural way ends up in a lovely lace ruffle at the top of the sock. The round holes in the lace contrast with the stockinette stitch which frames and compliments them like a pea pod.

Although short and quick, this pattern is an excellent “swatch“ for learning multiple techniques, written for for advanced beginner sock knitters. Every section offers something new and unusual to try out and learn. At the same time they are not too complicated for a determined knitter.

Depending on the size of sock you will need 50 to 100 g of any solid or tonal sock yarn, perhaps in a light and flowery colour, and needles in size appropriate for your yarn choice and your personal gauge.
