Syla Voli shawl
About the pattern
“ Syla Voli - a mosaic shawl inspired by strength and hope. I designed this shawl to honor my Ukrainian roots and speak through stitches when words are not enough. Every row is an act of hope. Every stitch is a wish for peace.
From now through September 30, 2025, 50% of all sales will be donated to humanitarian organizations supporting Ukraine .
Thank you for being a part of this journey. “
“Syla Voli” means “Strength of Will” in Ukrainian — a tribute to resilience, hope, and beauty.
This mosaic knitting shawl features flowing sunflower and wheat motifs, celebrating nature and heritage through every stitch. Inspired by the golden wheat fields and bright sunflowers of my homeland, this mosaic shawl weaves a story in every row. The wheat symbolizes abundance and nourishment, while the sunflowers turn toward the light, reminding us to keep seeking hope even in the darkest days.
I simply couldn’t stick to just one fiber!
I fell in love with how Syla Voli transforms, so I knitted it in four different fibers — from rustic wool to silky bamboo and tencel, airy linen, and a luxurious hand-dyed wool–cashmere blend. Each version has its own personality, drape, and story.
If you enjoy rhythmic knitting with stunning visual payoff, this design will be your next obsession. One pattern. Four fibers. Infinite stories.
“One pattern. Four fibers. Infinite stories.”
Syla Voli - is a mosaic-knit half-circle shawl that carries deep meaning in every stitch.
I first planned to release this design on August 24th, Ukraine’s Independence Day. But thanks to the voices of my community, Syla Voli blooms earlier — released now as a living symbol of resilience, strength, and hope.
The motifs of sunflowers and wheat reflect Ukraine’s spirit — beauty, abundance, and endurance through hardship. Knit stitch by stitch in mosaic colorwork, Syla Voli grows into a shawl that is as meaningful as it is wearable.
Using simple slipped stitches, Syla Voli creates striking colorwork without the need to carry multiple strands at once. It’s a meditative, rhythmic knit that invites you to slow down and savor the journey.
The flowing half-circle shape wraps effortlessly around your shoulders, and the scalloped edge adds a graceful finishing touch.
Whether you knit it in the colors of sunflowers and sky or choose your own palette, Syla Voli is more than just a shawl — it’s a wearable reminder of willpower, beauty, and connection.

Finished measurements depend on yarn and needle size.
My wool virgin is approximately 162cm/64” in width and 62cm/25” in height.
Three contrasting yarn colors ( or at least 2) are needed to this design. To be on the safe side, 100g/400m of each color should be enough to complete this project. My testers and I used about 50g of CC1 color, and close to 100g of MC and CC2.
Needles: One 80cm/32” or 100cm/39” circular needle (or straight needles if preferred) in size needed to obtain gauge. Suggested needle size: 3.5mm/US #4.
Notions: 2 markers A, 11 markers B and a tapestry needle to weave in the ends.
Gauge: 28 sts and 28 rows = 10x10cm (4”) in garter stitch, measured after blocking.
NOTE: Gauge is not critical for this project, but can affect yardage and finished measurements.
