Syncopation, in music, refers to a disruption in a regular rhythm, something off-beat that somehow works. With my love of texture and Harnie Hoolie’s sinfully delicious yarn, this design combines some of our best elements to create a delightfully off-beat shawl that is gloriously simple to knit in yarn that flows through your hands like a dream.

When I first saw Harnie Hoolie’s yarns I thought, ‘Oh, those are nice.’ And then I touched them. I was transported to another world, where I was surrounded by featherdown pillows, puffy clouds, candyfloss… Everything light, warm and good, and I just knew I needed to collaborate with someone who put such love and care into these beautiful fibres. Luckily for me, they were also keen.

I wanted to make the most of these beautiful fibres, I knew a shawlette just wouldn’t cut it for this one. I wanted a shawl that would wrap around you, and sit on your shoulders unaided, so the ¾ shawl was the obvious choice. I waited till I could see the yarns, they were so beautiful that I knew I had to let them lead the way. I like texture, and tend to avoid colour work (sewing in ends!) but as soon as I saw the yarns, I knew that I needed to make the most of the colour and texture combinations that Harnie Hoolie has available.

This pattern is both modern and classically stylish, and the use of colour and texture in the design is simple and easy, while still having that wow factor. The yarns are baby soft, making this a shawl you will want to snuggle up to. Let the colours call to you, and pick colours that make this shawl a stand-out in your wardrobe.

Needles: 3.75mm (US5, UK9) and 5mm (US8, UK6) or needles
required to obtain gauge. I recommend using a 100cm or
longer circular needle for the length.
Tension/gauge: 17.5sts =10cm/ 4 inch in MC on smaller needles
after blocking
