The striking Taiga Hat and Mitts are sure to warm your head and hands all winter long. The hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, and the mitts are also worked in the round from the cuff up. Some slight modifications to the final repeat of the pattern disguise the jog and create a seamless appearance.

Yarn Green Mountain Spinnery Mewesic (100% fine American wool; 180 yd 165 m/ 2 oz 58 g): #9395 Touch of Grey (MC), 2 skeins; #9089 Norwegian Wood (brown; CC), 1 skein.

Needles Sizes 4 (3.5 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm): 16” circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Marker (m); waste yarn to be used as a stitch holder; tapestry needle.

  • The charts are worked using the stranded method. Always pick up the background color over the pattern color and pick up the pattern color from under the background color. Keep floats loose. For floats longer than three stitches, tack stranded yarn on the wrong side of the work.
