Traditional baby colors often elude me. Pale Pinks, Yellows and Blues are rarely in my stash…Babies enter the world with a bang, so this little cap is named with a Native American word, “Taima,” meaning “thunder.” It makes a loud statement in the Hospital Nursery! Inspired by a piece of fabric with Native American and Southwestern motifs, it turns ten small balls of bold colors, or maybe ten balls of muted colors; tonals; even neutrals, greys, black, white into a unique, quick knit gift. The choice of colors will make these simple borders into the knitter’s unique creation. Little bits of favorite sweaters, scarves or other knitting projects will get new life in this cap. I save every bit of yarn, in this hat one color is used on only one round, so no amount is too small to put to use. Put the balls in a circle by color and choose the best ones. No color is off the table, but do try to stay with all brights, or all pastels or all neutrals. It’s the main color that ties them all together, in the main photos it is grape.

Look for this hat with more borders in 4 sizes in June of 2014.

It will be called “Native Language.”
