A walk in the woods is a cool reprieve from the heat of the summer sun. In its cool caverns plant life bursts forth, reaching for the dappling sun. I tiptoe through the Lady slippers, Trilliums, and Black-Eyed Susans as they nod their heads in silent greeting.

As lush as the forest floor, Tallis Lace Sampler Tunic is a riot of lacy stitches and textures. Simple arch lace and cables frame tumbling leaves as a traditional English mesh lace makes up the sides and back. The lacy saddle shoulder panels echo the center motif of Barbara Walker’s “drooping elm,” an off-set leaf variation that cascades down the front of the tunic. Designed without shaping, it can be made in a larger size for a relaxed fit or with some negative ease for a more fitted shape (see fit notes). The tunic is knit flat and seamed after blocking. All lace patterns are charted.

Tallis is a fun knit that will delight newer and experienced lace knitters alike. Ideal for everyday wear to the office, out on a date or even to the beach over a swim suit, you may wear your Tallis in any situation or any season!

Materials:
Fiddlesticks Country Silk or 700 (800, 950, 1100) yards of sport weight/heavy fingering weight yarn
4mm needle or to size to obtain gauge
3 mm 60cm circular needle or one mm smaller than body needle size
wool needle
markers ( optional- for dividing motif panels)

SM (M, L, XL)
33” (38”, 43.5”, 49”)

FIT NOTES: Actual circumference of garment body given. There is no side shaping, but lace fabric is very flexible. Depending on the fiber used, lace garment may stretch to fit larger than resting gauge. To make oversized, use your hip measurement. To make fitted, use your bust measurement.

Gauge:
English Mesh Lace on 4mm or needle size to obtain gauge.
3 repeats (18 sts)/ 28 rows = 4” after blocking.
