Ten Mile Bay

Labradorite with its mesmerizing iridescence and interplay of color, and its character enhanced by the veins that run through it. Ten Mile Bay in Labrador is home to a labradorite quarry and inspired this sweater.

Ten Mile Bay is a top down raglan, evoking the feel of Joe Batt’s Arm. This Ten Mile Bay raglan is worked top down and in the round, and the colorwork is ordinary stranded knitting using 2 colours. A little bit of Front neck shaping is done at the very start with the stranded colorwork worked flat for 6 rows, then you join at the Front neck and the remaining sweater is worked in the round. Raglan increases are made through the yoke to the underarm. Sleeve and Body stitches are divided, sleeve stitches are placed on hold, and the Lower Body is worked in the round down to the hem. Stitches around the neck are picked up and the neckband is worked in the round. Lastly, sleeves are worked down to the cuffs. The neckband, cuffs, and hem feature a 2 colour stranded garter stitch, cohesively enhancing the aesthetic of Ten Mile Bay.

Stranded Colourwork Gauge

27 sts / 27 rnds to 10cm / 4” using size B needles.

Needles & Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle size. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use needle sizes that will result in the correct listed gauges after blocking.

Size A: 3.25mm (US 3) circular needles of varying lengths for the edgings & some single-colour stockinette rounds in the sleeves
Size B: 3.75mm (US 5) circular needles of varying lengths for the stranded colourwork

You will also need: spare interchangeable cables, spare needles or scrap yarn for holding stitches; stitch markers.

Techniques

• Stranded colorwork in the round using 2 colors
• There is 6 rows of stranded colorwork worked flat to shape the Front neck at the very beginning of the sweater
• Increasing and decreasing in 1x1 stranded colorwork
