This square motif mosaic afghan is inspired by the mosaic tiles of southern Spain.

here is a tutorial on how to get started with Terrazzo!

The size varies by the number of squares you make, the yarn you use and your gauge - so you can really just make any size afghan you want! For my Terrazzo Afghan I made 54 squares and it is approximately 122 cm wide and 176 cm long, including the border. Each square is 18 x 18 cm large, according to my gauge (17 st & 17 rnds for 10 cm). There is also a baby blanket version included in the pattern, with smaller squares. Like you can see in the last photo my baby version is still a work in progress. You can also use the pattern to make pillows or a needle cushion like mine!

The squares are worked in the round and then crocheted together with slip stitches. The border is also worked in the round and is finished with the lovely crab stitch. That always gives such a great finishing look!

The afghan is worked with mosaic technique, which is explained in detail in the pattern. All written instructions.

The suggested yarn is Merino Aran from Katia. For a blanket with 54 squares, like the one in the photos, it requires 23 skeins.

You can of course use any yarn you like for the afghan. My personal favorite is using scraps for blankets, that´s why in my Big Blue Terrazzo Afghan I used the suggested yarn for the main color, which really ties it together, and then all kinds of juicy blue scraps for the pattern color. for example an old silk shawl I never finished went in there along with some alpaca, merino and all types of happiness scraps! It´s so soft and cozy, and quite heavy with a dense texture, almost woven like.
