This is the Terrific T-Rex Kids Unisex Sweater! I recently realized that nearly every crochet children’s item I see is for girls. But two of my really good friends just had boys, and I wanted to make sure they had something special! And since I personally consider dinosaurs to be unisex, this is a fun unisex kids sweater. With the colorwork T-rex on the front, this top is sure to be a hit with any kiddo! And it’s perfect for a quick an easy weekend project!

For this kids top I decided that dinosaurs need some representation! You can make it in short sleeved cotton for the spring/summer or long sleeved acrylic or (superwash!) wool for the fall/winter. The T-rex is a fan favorite, and with his characteristic big head and little arms, I figured he would look fantastic on a sweater! I used rows of turned HDC for this pattern to keep the seam straight, while keeping a simple texture for a lovely unisex child sweater!

This yoke top sweater is completely seamless! You start with the collar, and move easily into the yoke, turning your work every round. When it’s time to add the colorwork Rex, you keep turning your work, and only carry the rex color until the end of the dinosaur, so there is very little yarn waste (which is a personal peeve of mine in a lot of colorwork!).

You will need a 5mm hook and 300-1000 yards of any DK (#3) weight yarn. I used Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday DK in colors Dove and Treetop. If you prefer to make a short sleeved spring top, any cotton DK yarn will also work!
