This is a lightweight scarf based on a plaid mesh pattern. It works well with any non fluffy yarn type. It’s been tested in cotton, acrylic and merino / silk blend. Yardage is approximate as it worked out about 100 grams of handspun merino.

Gauge is isn’t that important, if you find that your first few rows are stiff or you find that the block are significantly wider than they are tall, then go up a hook size.

The cowrie shell stitch takes some getting used to, but creates a lovely texture.

This pattern uses the foundationless double crochet start, but doesn’t contain instructions. There are lots of You Tube videos and tutorials online to explain this technique, and I would recommend using this over a chain start as it will give you a much more even width to your work.
