The Elspeth Blouse
A Romantic, Edwardian/Victorian fusion. Feminine and flattering. She has a ruffled body, and beautiful ruffle sleeves with an ever so slight puff shoulder.
Sizing:
XS/S/M/L/XL
Fit
The blouse design is neither too figure hugging or too loose, it is somewhere in between. There should be some degree of space between the body and garment, with it shadowing the natural shape of the body. The ribbed edge sits on the waist, the ruffled sleeves fall onto the hands. As there is a natural stretch in the yarn it could accommodate different desired fits so you can also opt to size down for a tighter fit.
Bust – 96cm/101cm/106cm/111cm/166cm (with around 5cm stretch)
Waist – 79- 84cm/85-90cm/91-95/96-100cm/101-105cm
Gauge – 16 stitches = 10cm
Skill
If you are a beginner and only used to knitting flat and bottom up, Top down knitting in the round can seem daunting, but it is a lot easier than one would think, and it is not outside of your capability. The construction is made up of simple stitches and increases/decreases for shaping and the ruffled feature is picked up once the body is complete – I would categorise it as advanced beginner / intermediate.
What you need:
Needles – 5mm circular needles (80cm) for body
I use the same size needles throughout with magic loop for the sleeves, but you can choose to use smaller circumference needles (40cm) for the sleeves or DPNs
Yarn – Any DK yarn of your choice – I used a mixture John Lewis brand DK yarn for the body and Sirdar hayfield Twist for the ribbed edges and ruffles but the same DK yarn throughout is fine as long as it fits into the gauge.
Yarn quantity – 625/737/787/899/1011 Meters – these are approximations and can vary depending on the yarn you use.
