The Essential Beanie is exactly that: a simple, classic beanie pattern you can knit again and again.

Designed with super bulky yarn, this beginner-friendly pattern includes 9 sizes from newborn through large adult, making it an easy go-to for babies, kids, adults, gifts, markets, or matching family hats.

The pattern is worked in the round with a classic ribbed brim and simple stockinette body. It’s intentionally basic so you can make it your own. Knit it all in one colour, use a contrasting colour for the brim, add stripes or colour blocking, or hold a strand of fingering-weight mohair with your main yarn for a fluffier look.

Finish it with one pom, two poms, or no pom at all.

Skill Level

Beginner

You should be comfortable knitting in the round, working knit and purl stitches, and making basic decreases.

The pattern also includes guidance for adjusting the width and length, so you can customize the fit if needed.

This is the kind of pattern meant to live in your library and get used over and over. Change the yarn, change the colours, add a pom, skip the pom. Make it yours.

Pattern is for personal use. You may sell finished items made from this pattern in small quantities, but the pattern itself may not be copied, shared, redistributed, or resold.
