The Fantail Shawl
I created this shawl a number of years ago, when I was inspired to make something warm for my neck from one of the Caron Cakes colour changing yarns (the colourway is called Bumbleberry!). I found this great pattern in the Sarah Hazell’s book Crochet Stitch Dictionary on page 58. I have changed the pattern only very slightly to have the ends of the shawl decrease with each subsequent row made.
This pattern is crocheted going side to side, turning the work from front to back for each row. The pattern repeat is done in multiples of 11 stitches for the first repeat, 10 stitches for every successive repeat, plus a chain 2 to start row one. 11 stitches + (10sts x #of repeats) + 2ch = the number of stitches needed for this shawl.
This shawl can be made as long as you like, but I only used one ball of the Caron Cakes yarn and had a nice shawl or wide scarf that would keep my upper shoulders and neck warm. I recommend finishing this pattern on a row one, and use the reverse single crochet stitch (also known as the Crab stitch) to finish the scalloped edge
