If you have some yarn stash, or might you love to take your knitting with you where you go, like me, - this pattern is exactly what you need! Knitting pieces is so convenient! Use any oddments you have. Any colour, or different colour for each square looks amazing. You can knit your Afghan small, for your baby cot, or as big as you wish. It’s up to you!
I have knitted my sample using Stylecraft Special Aran. Might you love Woolcraft Knitting Aran, or might Drops Nepal? I have knitted a lot of my crafts using a wonderful Aran wool, which I discovered in a farmers’ market. Why not to support small business? Choose any yarn composition you love! Discover your colours, your weights. Might you don’t like Aran? If you love chunky yarns- take 10mm needles and ready steady knit! You don’t need to follow gauge. Your size of blanket depends on your knitting tension.
You have to know how to work cables and simple stitches as knit, purl, make one and knit two stitches together. Also, you have to know some basic crochet stitches for joining all squares in one big piece.
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner with some skills. MATERIALS REQUIRED:
• 2 x 100g balls (392m or 429yds) using Stylecraft Special Aran 1064 (mocha shade) yarn.
• 2 x 100g balls (392m or 429yds) using Stylecraft Special Aran 1004 (dark brown shade) yarn.
• 2 x 100g balls (392m or 429yds) using Stylecraft Special Aran 1035 (burgundy shade) yarn.
• 2 x 100g balls (392m or 429yds) using Stylecraft Special Aran 1829 (empire shade) yarn.
• 2 x 100g balls (392m or 429yds) using Stylecraft Special Aran 1081 (saffron shade) yarn.
NB If you substitute another yarn, please check gauge (tension) and yardage and adjust accordingly.
• 2 Straight needles - 8mm (US 11).
• 1 Crochet hook - 4mm (US G).
• 1 Cable needle.
• 1 Tapestry needle.
MEASUREMENTS AFTER BLOCKING:
Each Square size: 19 x 19 cm (7 1⁄2 x 7 1⁄2 ins).
Afghan size: 204cm x 92cm (80 1⁄4 x 36 1⁄4 ins). Your size depends on your gauge and chosen yarn weight.
GAUGE (Tension): 16sts and 18rows = 10cm (4ins), Afghan being blocked and measured over cable pattern, using 8mm (US 11) needle. Gauge is not crucial for this pattern.
