The House Elf pattern includes written instructions in US terms. It also incudes gauge information for all hooks used (G6/4mm, I9/5.5mm, and K10.5/6.5mm hooks) except the C/2.75mm hook because it can be changed out for anything up to a 3.5mm without much difference, notes to help with reading the pattern, and pictures to go along with written instructions.
When completed your house elf will be approximately 23 inches from top of head to the bottom of his feet when laid out straight or 15 inches from top of head to butt when sitting up.
For this pattern I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Buff and Aran because how well it holds it shape, it is durable, and it is easily attainable for most people. Buff (body color) I used approximately 3/4 of a jumbo roll and Aran (for outfit and sock) I used approximately 1/4 of a regular sized roll. You are free to change what brand, size, or color you use just keep in mind that if you do not match gauge when making your elf he may turn out slightly larger or smaller than what is noted. For the eyes I used safety eyes for this item but include alternate instructions if you choose not to use them. For the eyes you will use black (only if you don’t use safety eyes), white, and bright green. I used cotton crochet thread size 10 for black and white but opted to use DMC floss for the bright green because I could not find the color I wanted in thread. Feel free to use the DMC floss or thread for all colors, they are pretty close in size and it will not make a difference. For all of these colors you will only need inches of thread, using more for white than either of the other two colors.
When finished The House Elf makes for a great decoration in your house, for a bookshelf, or a stuffed animal for kids!
