This slouchy hat design is knit in the super soft Knit Picks Shine Sport yarn. The design was inspired by the vibrant, lovely, and overflowing joy of my friend Jeanette. She loves the outdoors that the Lord God made including flowers and birds, and the color orange.

There are a lot of options in this pattern. You can knit 3 colors in a row for the yellow centers of the flowers, or you can duplicate stitch them after completion of the hat. You can chose to include a little bluebird by taking out one set of orange stems above the flowers, you could make a flock of bluebirds, or none at all. The bluebirds are also worked as either 3 colors in a row or duplicate stitch. I have used duplicate stitch in my samples as I struggle to not get my tension too tight with 3 colors in one row.

As in all of my past patterns, this one features a “jogless” join. This technique can be a little confusing at first, but is a brilliant addition to your hat knitting. Any elements, like flowers, that are joined in the round naturally are off by one row because of the spiral shape of knitting in the round. The “jogless” join allows those motifs to be joined together without the “jog” of one row off. I have included two charts in this particular pattern, one with the “jogless” joins and one without them.

The crown features Center Double Decreases and the method to work them is described in the written pattern.

The colors of Shine Sport Yarn I used in this pattern are:
Sky
Cosmopolitan
White
Macaw
Grapefruit
Dandelion
One skein of each color is sufficient to make one hat.

I recommend a gauge swatch to determine your own needles sizes. Gauge is extremely important for the fitting of any garment and knitting styles and tension differ greatly between different people.

Enjoy knitting this vibrant happy pattern! I loved designing and knitting it as a gift for my friend Jeanette and hope you find joy in knitting it too.
