The Julie Mascot
I made a small mascot some time ago, and didn’t finish it. However, a family wedding brought visitors to my home, and Julie admired the mascot every time she passed it – it was sitting on the mantelpiece waiting to be finished.
So, this mascot is named after my friend Julie.
The Julie Mascot is made from the head down. The skirt is designed to flare out so your mascot will sit on a shelf unsupported. The arms and legs are cords, made from the same yarn as the head.
It takes about 2 hours to make (but I am very slow so you may be able to work up your Julie mascot faster than this).
It is a small and easy mascot to make, and a quick project.
Tension/gauge
Please note that the head and body must be worked tightly so that the stuffing doesn’t appear through gaps in your stitches.
Knowledge level
You will need to be able to use a magic loop, ch, ss, dc, increase and decrease, and basic sewing skills. You will also need to be able to make cords.
You will need small amounts of Double Knit yarn in several colours:
There are 4 main colours – one colour for the head/face and arms and legs, a colour for the body and a matching or contrasting colour for the skirt. The 4th colour is for the hair. You will also need small amounts of yarn for the facial features – the eyes and lips.
Stuffing.
A darning needle and a sewing needle
2 crochet hooks – a 3mm and a 4mm.
Scissors
Thread that matches the hair colour.
Pattern is given in UK terminology. Let me know if you would like a US version.
