Kaleidocatty is this year’s Catvent Knit!

25 little catty-covered hexies combine forces to create a lovely, snuggly blanket.

This is designed with yarn advent calendars in mind - each hexie requires 20g of DK weight yarn (or 4-ply yarn held double) - but it works just as well using full skeins.

The completed blanket measures 125 x 160cm - but there’s guidance in the pattern for making a smaller or larger blanket, too.

I’ve put together some advent calendar kits and some yarn kits for this pattern.

Yarn requirements

Main (background) colours

25 x DK weight 20 gram/ 40 metre mini skeins
OR
5 x DK weight 100 gram/ 200 metre skeins

Contrast (colourwork and border) colour

4 x DK weight 100 gram/ 200 metre skeins

You can use 4ply yarn held double in place of the DK-weight yarn. If you’re knitting up an advent calendar a centre-pull ball will let you knit from the inside and outside simultaneously.

You can knit this blanket in any weight of yarn you like, but the yarn requirements will vary, as will the size of the completed knit.

Use up your scraps!

If you’re planning to raid your scrap basket or stash to knit this blanket this breakdown of how the yarn’s divided up should help.

For each hexie:

Main (background) colour: 20 grams / 40 metres of DK-weight yarn (or 20 grams / 80 metres of 4-ply yarn held double).
Contrast (colourwork) colour: 8 grams / 16 metres of DK-weight yarn (or 16 grams/ 32 metres of 4ply yarn held double).

For grafting the hexies:

20 grams / 40 metres of DK-weight yarn (or 20 grams / 80 metres of 4-ply yarn held double).

For the border

160 grams / 320 metres of DK-weight yarn (or 320 grams / 640 metres of 4-ply yarn held double).
