Introduction
I fell in love with Dawn Barker’s assigned pooling patterns and decided I wanted to create one of my own that uses a stitch I especially enjoy—the double-elongated stitch. I named the pattern after the stitch because I often find myself taking the long way round to do things. Maybe you do too. ;-)

The shape of the finished scarf is really intriguing. I’m calling it a triangular crescent because it has a point at one end and a curve at the other. It can actually be worn with the point or the curve at the top for different lovely effects as you can see from the photos.

Yarn
You’ll need one 100 gram skein of yarn dyed for assigned pooling. That means that about one quarter of the skein is dyed in one color or combination of colors and the other three quarters of the skein is dyed in a distinctly different color or combination of colors. For this stitch, it’s okay if the assigned pooling color is all in one section or in two separate sections.

I used a skein of sport-weight yarn for the sample project, but any weight will work. You’ll just to adjust the needle size accordingly. See below for recommendations.

Needles and Notions

  • Circular needles that are at least 36 inches (90 cm) in length (see needle size recommendations below)
  • 1 removable stitch marker to mark the right side of the work
  • 2 additional stitch markers to mark the garter-stitch edges
  • A small scale that measures in grams, unless you use the simplified method at the end

Needle Size for Yarn Weights
Below you can find recommendations for needle sizes depending on the yarn weight you choose. Keep in mind that these are just a starting point. If you tend to be a loose knitter, you might go down a size, and if you tend to knit tightly, you might go up a size.

  • Sock/Fingering Weight - US Size 5
  • Sport Weight - US Size 7
  • DK Weight - US Size 9
  • Worsted Weight - US Size 11
