The Midnight Sun Shawl is inspired by the sun that never sets during summer in the far north countries. The shape of the shawl mimics the sun as it dips close to the horizon, but never quite touching it.

The shawl is a semi-circle shape. It starts with a long garter tab cast-on, and then continues with garter stitch until you reach the lace design. Made with heavy lace weight yarn, this project becomes a lovely, light-weight shawl that is perfect for spring and summer mornings.

Skill Level: Intermediate
The construction of the shawl, combined with the weight of yarn used, makes this an intermediate project. You will need to know how to knit and purl. Instructions are given on the long garter tab cast-on, and there are only charted instructions for the lace.

Yarn: light fingering or heavy lace weight, approximately 1510 yds/1380 m (pictured is Meadow in Gentian Violet from The Fibre Co.)

Needles: US 2/2.75 mm 32 inches/80 cm circular knitting needles
