The Perfect Boot Sock
I was inspired by my husband to design these socks. He works outside all year round, which includes during the winter - and our winters can be very harsh. He has thicker, store bought socks, meant for outdoor workers, that do not keep his feet as warm as these do! I’ve also made these socks for my father-in-law and brother-in-law, who are in the same business, and they both have begged me for another pair, and they are such a quick knit that I was happy to oblige! This pattern uses bulky weight, washable wool for extra warmth and ease of care. There is no comparable fiber to wool, as it holds in heat, wicks away moisture, dries quickly, and can even be comfortable to wear in warmer weather. So, if you are choosing this pattern for someone who works outside, washable wool is the recommended fiber. If not, feel free to use whichever fiber suits you! (These would also make excellent “lounging around the house” socks!) The pattern as written will make a sock that is mid calf length, but if a longer sock is needed, depending on the height of the boot, this can be easily achieved by adding more rows to the leg portion of the pattern - just be sure to make note of how many rows you add so you have evenly sized socks. If you choose to do this, you will probably need one more skein (200 g total) of the main color total, but still only half a skein (about 50 g) for the contrast color.
I hope you enjoy this pattern and socks as much as my family does, and I would be ecstatic if you shared pictures of your finished products!
