The Pocket Pachyderm
This tiny elephant will help you remember what is so much fun about knitting toys! Use any yarn with DPNs that are a few sizes smaller than usual. The bits and bobs are: 10 yards of the main color, 1 yard white for the tusks, a bit of pink crewel if you’d like to add a mouth, 5 DPNs (the fifth one helps with the ears), a yarn needle and 2 - 4mm black glass beads for eyes if this tiny treasure is for someone more than 3 feet tall. Sock yarn will knit up into an elephant a little bit larger than a quarter. A critter in DK will nestle comfortably in your palm. There are lots of things you can do with your Pocket Pachyderm:
Tie a string around it’s trunk and stick it in your pocket to remind you to pick up the bread.
Knit a long trunk and tie it around a peanut. Elephants like peanuts.
Give one to someone special with a note that says “You are unforgettable!”
After a special time give one with a note that says “I’ll always remember”.
Knit one in brown mohair with long tusks for a Wooly Mammoth.
Send to a friend as a belated birthday treasure with a loose bit of string and a note that says “How could I forget?”
….
Knit a whole herd. Elephants are friendly and love each other.
