There’s a lot of controversy in the Knitting World about the difference between a “cowl” and a “snood”. A traditional snood is a decorative garment (typically crocheted) that is worn on the back of the head to hold a woman’s hair (think Scarlett O’Hara). A traditional cowl was a hooded garment worn by monks. Knit-wise, a cowl is a loose abbreviated version of an infinity scarf, often soft and plushy, accompanied by a hood.

My version of a knitted snood is a combination of a cowl and traditional snood, in that when worn with a jacket, it sits up high on the back of the head to keep your neck and head warm. Perfect for chilly, windy days and for those who commute. If you walk to work, bike, travel by subway/train, or just have a long walk from the parking lot to the office, this is the perfect winter accessory for you.

Designed for Roving Aran Weight Yarn; will also work with: Heavy Worsted, Aran, Bulky. Finished Product approximately 11” tall by 15” wide (measurements taken with the garment laid flat; knitted in the round).
