This was the Summer 2021 MKAL. We have left it in clue form because this isn’t just a knitting pattern; it is an experience. Drinks recipes, life advice from a Sharon, and lots of snark.

The Snark-o-meter stars Sharon From Security (the snarkiest!), Fin from Interpol, with special appearances by Jean from I.T. and Kit Kat (the Resting Hiss Face.) There are 6 clues over 6 weeks. There is a pre-clue out now with a schematic and a Pre-Clue drink (The Flamethrower) so go and have some fun with it!

The Snark-o-meter is a design for a rectangular shawl, approx. 20” wide and approx. 64” long. You will receive 6 clues over 6 weeks along with Mocktail and Cocktail recipes from the crew. It’s quite adaptable to length but please do not ask us to modify the width for you. If you would like to adapt it, yourself, please do! Expect a lot of SNARK during the 6 weeks. If being told off by a cat is an issue, rethink this, immediately!

You will need 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn (approx. 375 yards each) and US size 6 and 4 needles, 24” or longer. One or two variegated skeins are just fine, and all four as speckles are fine as well. Color B should be tonal, solid, or speckled but not variegated. Single ply will also work, but you will have to size down a couple of needle sizes. Fades look great as well but will switch order throughout. Don’t forget the smaller Talk to the Paw pattern that will keep you busy if you are twiddling your thumbs before the start of this!

Also, if you have more than 4 colors, this lends itself to that beeeeautifully. You could even use a variety of scrap yarn for it. We were limited to 4 skeins to try not to price people out of it (and to make stash diving easier) but kept wanting to add in extra! The kit we used is at the top on the left.

If you want to stash dive, this is also a great pattern for it! You can even do it in one or two colors, you do not have to use a specific brand of yarn and nobody will judge you negatively for making it your own (unless it has Jean from I.T. stuff on it and then you’re on your own.)

Level - Intermediate beginner. First timers should definitely attempt and as always there are some “easy” sections for options if needed.

Price - We worked soooo hard on this to give you a fun experience and will continue to work over six weeks during it. It’s $2 per week to pay for Sharon From Security’s significant sushi habit, hence the higher than normal price which is in the past has been $10 during an MKAL. With designers constantly being devalued, we decided to actually ask what we think it’s worth for an experience that is funny, has prizes, has a cat with a flamethrower and will hopefully have you laughing for the last part of the summer!
