The Sydney was designed around the heart lace pattern, I love this simple lace heart which says so much with only a few yarn overs and decreases, I also included a little bit of colour work in this cowl as I had been itching to make something with it, I chose something with a slightly different texture to give the moss stitch even more interest.

The gauge is not important for this pattern

Materials and Notions

Size 3.5mm and 4mm needles and a long cable for magic loop or a smaller one you can fit 182 stitches on, I used the magic loop personally as I couldn’t find a suitable smaller cable.

12 stitch markers or pieces of scrap yarn – I didn’t use any markers BUT I had to tink back at least 4 times during the lace portion as my inability to count to 10 was becoming apparent so I do wish I had marked the start of each heart panel.

One skein (main colour) sport weight yarn – the pattern uses about 85% of this skein. I used my own brand of hand dyed sport weight merino in the colour veronica.

One part skein (contrast colour) of around 30grams of sport or fingering weight. I used a mini skein of my own hand dyed in the colour Pegasus mane which was a 50/50 merino tencel fingering weight.

Darning needle for ends.
