The Whimsical Sock Collective // A Mystery Sock Along

Are you ready for volume 2?
At around the same time last year, I realised the The Simple Sock Collective, my first ever mystery knit along. Following last year’s success, I’ve been wanting to bring another mystery knit along (and also because I can’t seem to stop knitting socks!).

The Whimsical Sock collective is a “secret/mystery knit along/ sock club” featuring “secret” sock patterns.
Each sock design featured in the collection is knit out a non-superwash, nylon-free(breed specific) yarn from different yarn companies.

Last year’s pattern were fairly simple, yet had some little interesting details to create some sock drawer staples.
This year I wanted to play with texture a little bit more, which means that the yarns that will be featured in the patterns might be quite “unusual’ compare to your regular sock yarn. The stitches are also more intricate compare to last year’s patterns as I wanted to add something quite “whimsical” to the collection.

Sock pattern 1

These might be THE comfiest and cosiest socks of the collection so far!
They are meant to be worn at home or in your wellies to keep your warm and toasty. I’ve knit two pairs already: one for Edgar and one for myself, and we’ve been wearing them at home non-stop for the past week!

They are warm, thick, rustic, yet so cosy!
I’ve designed them with two strands of Plötulopi held together with one strand of silk mohair. Yep, this yarn combination again! I haven’t been able to stop playing with it lately!
The yarn weight for this first sock is like a heavy worsted/ aran, which means that you substitute with a wasted weight yarn + silk mohair if Plötulopi is too rustic for you!

How does it work?

The knit along will take place over on Instagram where you will be able to share your wips and engage with fellow knitters #thewhimsicalsockcollective (all the details are explained in the Welcome pdf that you will receive).
