The matching hat pattern is now available in my Ravelry store!

Perfect for an early winter project, these mittens require only a few simple skills to knit comfortably. They consist mainly of thick garter stitch that makes for extra warmth, but also feature simple yet detailed slipped stitch columns that provide a slight interest. If you’re looking to start knitting colorwork but find fair isle intimidating, the striped aspect of these mittens may spark your interest.

The pattern is named after my art teacher, since I designed a hat with matching mittens as their Christmas gift. The matching hat pattern will be released shortly!

Yarn:
2 colours of DK weight yarn, 130, (145, 160) yards of the MC and 90, (100, 110) yards of the CC. Because the mittens are mainly in garter st, sport or DK weight yarn will work.

Gauge:
24 sts = 4”/10cm in garter st in the round OR
6 sts = 1”/2.5cm in garter st in the round.
Round gauge isn’t as important as st gauge.

Sizes: S (M, L)
Finished hand circumference 6.2, (6.8, 7.4)“/ 15.7, (17.3, 18.8)cm
The cuff and hand lengths are adjustable.
These mittens are designed to fit with 0-1” of negative ease, so choose a size smaller than your hand circumference.

Needles:
3.5mm (US size 4) DPNs, magic loop, short circulars or any method of knitting in the round in a small circumference
