The zig zag blanket
THE ZIG ZAG BLANKET
The zig zag blanket is created using the overlay mosaic crochet technique, with tapestry elements that allows an extra color. It might seem difficult, but only consists of dc’s and sc’s, so once you learn the technique, it is actually quite simple. If you have never tried overlay mosaic with 3 colors, this is a simple and easy repeat to begin with.
The pattern includes full written instructions for the blanket, and a chart if that’s what you prefer. In a separate file I have added a full photo tutorial on the technique, and how it’s done, and also a full photo tutorial on how to do a double border to hide your ends.
Size:
The width of the blanket is easily adjustable, so if you don’t feel like making a blanket, you can also use the pattern to create a scarf, a pillow etc.
The size using my suggested yarn and hooks will be approximately 125x90 cm.
Suggested yarn
- Color a: 5 x Scheepjes whirlette 100g/455m, color 851/Liquorice. This is for the blanket and 3 rounds of the border. The border is done in linked dc (tutorials on YouTube), to get a thicker border that hides the ends even better.
- Color b: 2 x Scheepjes whirlette 100g/455m, color 860/ice.
- Color c: 1 x Scheepjes whirl 215g/1000m, color 776/Rosewater cocktail.
These are the yarns and amounts I have used, but you can use any yarn you like in any weight. Change the hook size to fit the yarn you chose and your personal tension. If you use a thicker or thinner yarn, the finished size will vary, but proportions will stay the same.
