Thick & Thin Shawl
This Pattern is perfect for a beginner knitter.
It will work with any DK and Lace weight yarns. Or you could change the needle size and work it in other weight yarns too.
Or your leftovers…. the Sky is the limit….
I used one of Hand Maiden’s Cozy Slipper Sock Kits = 1 skein Hand Maiden’s EDEN - approx. 4 oz (118g)/218 yards (200m) & 1 skein Hand Maiden’s Angel Hair - approx. 1.7 oz (50g)/437 yards (400m)
NOTE: You need 2 skeins of the Hand Maiden’s EDEN for the larger size.
I used approx. 210 yards (194m) for my version.
US Size 8 (5mm) Circular Knitting Needle 24” (60cm) or 32” (80cm) or single pointed needles. Crochet hook for fringe.
Plus US Size 9 (5.5mm) Knitting Needle for an even “loosely” Bind Off.
Note: Entire shawl is worked in Garter Stitch from bottom up. You could also use Worsted Weight yarn and Fingering Weight yarn, or brushed Kid Mohair. Key is some type of contrast.
I wanted this one to be light & airy.
Gauge in Garter Stitch on US Size 8 (5mm) (Gauge is not vital):
Before wash: 18 sts = 4” (both yarns) & 34 rows = 4” (both yarns).
After wash: 16 1/2 sts = 4” (both yarns) & 32 rows = 4” (both yarns).
Shawl Size:
Before wash: Center Back 20” (51cm). Top Length 60” (152cm).
After wash: Center Back 21” (53cm). Top Length 66” (168cm).
NOTE: I placed my washed shawl on a towel to dry. I didn’t block it. Could be larger if blocked.
