Timeless Garden – Large
Overlay mosaic crochet
Timeless Garden is an advanced overlay mosaic crochet blanket pattern inspired by an elegant French design for woven silk created by J. D. Cornuaud around 1860.
The pattern includes three versions:
• Three-color version
• Two-color version with a solid background
• Two-color version with a non-solid background
Each version can be worked in the round from the center or bottom up. When working bottom up, you can make the full blanket, including the decorative border, or work the main panel only and add an envelope border afterward.
The main panel is worked primarily in classic overlay mosaic crochet. The three-color version also incorporates tapestry overlay mosaic crochet techniques, with color changes within the rounds to create an additional background color. Diagonal stitches are used only in the decorative border.
Skill level: Advanced
Although the main panel primarily uses classic overlay mosaic crochet, this is a large, non-repeating design that requires concentration and careful attention to the pattern.
Size
Full blanket: 287 sts × 397 rows
Main panel: 259 sts × 369 rows
Approximate finished size: approximately 131 × 180 cm (51½ × 71”)
Yarn, Hook, and Gauge
Suggested yarn: Sport weight, e.g., Scheepjes Stone Washed (50 g / 130 m / 142 yds)
Hook: 3.25–3.5 mm, or size needed to meet gauge
Gauge: 11 sts × 11 rows = 5 cm (2”) in pattern
Finished size and yarn requirements are approximate and may vary depending on your yarn, hook size, and individual gauge.
Approximate Yarn Requirements
Three-Color Version:
C1: ~4,000 m / 4,376 yds
Additional background color: ~1,300 m / 1,422 yds
C2: ~3,000 m / 3,282 yds
Two-Color Solid Background Version:
C1: ~4,580 m / 5,011 yds
C2: ~4,130 m / 4,519 yds
My own Large Three-Color sample, worked in the round from the center with lightweight mohair-blend yarns and a 3.5 mm hook, measures approximately 131 × 182 cm (51½ × 71½“) and weighs approximately 865 g.
The non-solid background version uses less C1 yarn than the solid background version. Detailed yarn requirements for all versions are included in the pattern.
The pattern includes written instructions, printable charts divided into pages, numerous step-by-step photo illustrations, and links to video tutorials. The videos have no spoken audio and include subtitles.
