The Toddler Mitten - Vidzeme Style pattern uses elements of an ethnographic Latvian mitten typical of Vidzeme: from the 18th Century cuff, the peasant thumb, the chart and the colors used. Four colors are used for this mitten though, except for the cuff, only two colors are used at any one time. The chart may be easily amended to increase the size of the mitten. The Toddler Mitten is knit in the round on dpns using a chart and written instructions.

This pattern is now updated (September 2018) to include directions for a “round top” as found on traditional Latvian work mittens and the addition of an afterthought cuff. These changes enhance the practicality of these mittens when knit for toddlers and other youngsters.
