Who can resist the slightly tangy swirl of sweetness that is meringue? Or hats shaped like meringue for that matter? I don’t know anyone who can. The Touch of Meringue Tuque is a fun and customizable hat that is perfect for that skein or two of super bulky yarn you have lying around. You can tailor this pattern to your head size and desired degree of slouch to make the perfect hat for you.

Bonus: This pattern easily makes a matching cowl and also provides instructions for substituting other weights of yarn!

This is an advanced beginner level pattern. Photo tutorials are included.

The pattern is written in standard US crochet terms.
It comes in 6 sizes and provides instructions for different degrees of slouch. Sizes are:

  • Toddler (1-2 years)
  • Younger child (3-5 years)
  • Older child (6-10 years)
  • Adult small/teen
  • Adult medium
  • Adult large

Here’s what you’ll need:
Hook: 8 mm
Yarn: Approximately 64 to 150 yards (59 to 137 m) of super bulky (#6) yarn.

I used 1 skein of Malabrigo Rasta (abril, jacinto, porrinho, almond blossom) for older child and adult small/teen sizes.

Other yarns testers enjoyed: Lion Brand Hometown USA and Wool Ease Thick and Quick Tweeds, Bernat Velvet, Caron Chunky Cakes, Buttercream Alpaca, and Feisty Fibres Fluff. Check the projects to see all the tester variations!
