Once again, it’s that time of year
when knitted accessories are a must!
The Touraine Road hat and mitts
began as a personal challenge to see
if I could knit three pieces from three
skeins of Plucky Cashmere DK… and
have next to no leftovers.

The hat pattern offers two hat
choices. You’ll find complete written
instructions, and links to videos for
understanding the helix method of
one row stripes, and another link
for working the Latvian Braid. There
are also written instructions for a
stockinette stitch fabric, or a reverse
stockinette fabric with no purling!
After completing two hats, I found
myself with a wee bit of yarn left
over.

My next challenge was to
squeeze a pair of fingerless mitts
out of the remaining yarn. After all,
who wants to waste even a smidge
of Cashmere! This is where a postal
scale comes in handy!

I began with three skeins of yarn,
each weighing 50 grams. When two
hats and one set of fingerless mitts
were completed, I had exactly 3
grams left! That’s what I call the best
possible bang for the buck.
