Trad. is two richly-textured beanie-style hats in one pattern--knit the messy bun version to accommodate a high bun hairstyle, or knit the more traditional version for a more traditional beanie.

This personal-use .PDF is a written pattern. It has photos and a schematic with flat measurements, and it’s organized so that both versions are fully written out for ease of focus. You won’t have to skip around, and if you like to work from paper patterns, you can opt to print only the pages you need.

Gauge is 15 sts and 29 rows in 4”, in pattern, blocked, or 16 sts and 26 rows in unblocked stockinette. Be sure to check your gauge. Use the needles you need to knit at gauge.

To knit Trad, you’ll need:

-Approximately 120-150 yards of worsted weight/aran yarn
-One set of double pointed knitting needles in US 8-9/5-5.5mm, or size needed for gauge
-One 16” circular knitting needle in US 8-9/5-5.5mm, or size needed for gauge
-Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
-Optional: stitch markers
(The pattern does use stitch markers, but it also provides exact stitch counts, so they’re not really necessary unless you prefer them.)

Trad. is the first pattern from the Mothership series--if you follow my instagram (@mousearmymittenco), you’ve probably seen mention of it back in February! If you like textured knits, keep an eye out--there are more to come.
