I am the designer of Square # 5, “YUJ” of the Traveling Knit Afghan 2021.

YUJ is a word from ancient Sanskrit language that means (as in the word yoga) “to unite”, “to yoke”, “to add” or “to join”. With this project, we are trying to do just that trying to bring people from all over the world together. The square is striped, made up of two colors as in a Zebra, an animal that symbolizes reliance upon community, blending of opposites without losing individuality, having a balanced view of every aspect of life and love for freedom.

Yarn: Lion Brand ‘Feels Like Butta’, 100 grams/218 yards. 2 colors Dusty Blue (MC), Lemon (CC).

Size: 20 inches x 20 inches square.

Needles: US size 7, 4.5mm.

Gauge: 19sts by 20 rows in Moss Stitch on US size 7/4.5mm needles (or size needed to obtain gauge).

Join us and knit a unique square every month along with each designer so that by the end of 2021 you have a generously sized blanket measuring 60 inches x 80 inches(152cm x 203cm).
