This shawl was knitted as a personal piece for family, and so this pattern is pulled together from my notes and photos taken over the two years that I worked on it off and on.

The shawl is knitted in one piece starting with a centre square knit corner to corner. Stitches are picked up around this square and the border is knit in a circular fashion, and finally the lace edging is knit around and onto the border. The traditional lace patterns are knit on a garter stitch ground, which means that in the border section some lace stitches are knitted purl-wise. Most of the motifs are lace every other row, however some are lace every row.

This shawl is for the experienced lace knitter. Note that I have not provided row by row written instructions for the charts.

The blocked and relaxed piece as knitted measured approximately 106cm square, but the final size will vary according to your own choice of yarn and needle, as well as your own knitting tension.
