This pattern has been created through Knit for Wildlife’s “Knitters in Residence”. Exploring the global decline of seabirds through the remarkable story of Vega World Heritage. A unique symbiosis between people and eiders.

This gansey is a drop shoulder design with minimal shaping for the neckline at the front of the garment. It includes underarm gussets and is designed with more positive ease that would have been typical in historical ganseys for a more contemporary fit.

Sizes: 1 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
This is designed to be an oversized fit; choose a size with approximately 20.5cm / 8 inches of positive ease.
Chest circumference: 102 112, 122, 132, 142, 152 cm / 40 44, 48, 52, 56, 60 inches

Needles:
3.75mm/US size 5 circular needle, 32”/80cm for working the body. Two sets of needles are useful, although not necessary, as the Front Yoke and Back Yoke are worked separately after armholes.
3.75mm/US size 5 dpns or 32”/80cm circular needle for magic loop to work the neckband and sleeve.
Always use a needle size that gives you the gauge listed, as every knitter’s gauge is unique.
