The pattern uses worsted weight yarn and size 5 mm (size 8 US) single pointed knitting needles. It’s knit flat and you can either use self-striping yarn or use different shades of yarn to make this toque. I indicate where to change the colours of yarn in the pattern so there isn’t any confusion. But please note, you can knit the beanie in one solid colour also. There’s no reason why you can’t.

This tuque is in adult sizes only!

It is NOT knit in the traditional way by casting on stitches to go around your head. It’s knit from the side. Each row runs from the forehead to the top up to the crown of the head or to the pom pom. This is what makes the stripes vertical instead of the usual horizontal ones on all the other winter hats out there.

The pattern is free to read row by row on my website here -
