Vesper is a relaxed vest worked bottom-up, built around a single design intention: bringing together things that don’t obviously belong, and finding the thread that connects them.
The hem and neckline are worked in fine, unspun Nutiden, moving through four colors that gradually deepen from pale and barely-there to warm earth. The body is where the conversation opens up. In Sample 1, it is knitted in VARV Fin bouclé — deep, saturated purple with a mist of black, richly textured and fully present. In Sample 2, three strands of Nutiden are held together, marled in two colors, creating a dense, warm body with its own quiet movement. Two entirely different results — same pattern, same principle.
The transition between hem and body is not a hard edge in either version. It dissolves — through a shift in needle size, a few rows of Nutiden held double, and careful decreases that keep the silhouette clean. Close up, every step of the journey is visible. From across the room, it simply feels right.
The construction is considered yet relaxed: a split hem with diagonal edges that introduce gentle movement to the lower body, a deep V-neck with an overlapping hem that echoes the stripe sequence below, clean armholes left unedged, and shoulder shaping that follows the body’s natural drop. A vest that layers beautifully over a dress, a shirt, a fine knit, and settles into whatever it finds beneath it.
Vesper is a piece about contrast held gently. About the beauty of transition. About things that don’t need to match; they just need to be held together well.
